This is the highest grade we offer and the item is indistinguishable from one purchased directly from a retailer.

Like New

Appears unread and virtually indistinguishable from a new copy. There is no visible wear to the cover, spine, or pages. The dust jacket (if applicable) is intact, clean, and unmarked. Pages are bright and free of any writing, highlighting, stamps, or stickers. The binding is tight and the spine is uncreased. The item may have been briefly handled but shows no evidence of use. It may have a small remainder mark on the bottom or top edge, which does not affect the content in any way.

Very Good

Shows minimal signs of handling or light use. The cover is clean with very slight wear at the edges, corners, or along the spine. The binding remains firm and secure. Pages are clean with no writing, highlighting, underlining, or turned down corners. There may be a very faint crease on the spine or a light mark on the cover, but overall the item is in excellent shape and has clearly been well looked after. A great choice if you want something close to new at a lower price.

Good

Shows normal wear consistent with regular reading and use. The cover may have light creases, minor scuffing, small marks, or some edge wear. The spine may be creased but remains intact and the binding is still secure. Pages are complete and fully readable, though there may be minor dog earing, a previous owner's name or bookplate, or light foxing on older titles. There are no missing or loose pages. All text and illustrations are clear and legible throughout. This is a solid, functional copy that has been read and enjoyed.

Acceptable

A well used copy that remains perfectly functional for reading. The cover may show noticeable wear, creasing, rubbing, or minor cosmetic damage such as small tears or staining. Pages may contain highlighting, handwritten notes, underlining, stamps, or stickers. The spine may be visibly creased or show signs of loosening, though the binding still holds. There may be bumped corners, shelf wear, or sun fading to the cover. Despite the cosmetic wear, the complete text is intact, all pages are present, and the item is fully readable from cover to cover.

Ex-Library Copies

Some items in our catalogue are former library copies. These may carry library stamps, barcodes, stickers, classification labels, date due slips, or pocket remnants. Covers may have protective lamination applied by the library, and spines may feature call number labels. The condition of ex-library copies is always reflected in the listed grade, and they will be clearly identified in the product listing where known. Ex-library copies are typically priced lower to reflect these markings and are a great option for readers who prioritise content over cosmetic appearance.

30 Day Return Window

You have 30 days from the date of delivery to request a return. To be eligible for a return, the item must be sent back in the same condition in which it was received. Items that have been used, written in, damaged by the customer, or altered in any way after delivery are not eligible for a return. All returned items are inspected upon receipt to verify their condition before a refund is processed.

How Refunds Work

Once we receive and inspect your returned item, we will process your refund to the original payment method used at checkout. Refunds typically take 5 to 10 business days to appear on your statement, depending on your bank or payment provider. You will receive an email confirmation once your refund has been issued.

Please note that refunds can only be issued to the original payment method. We are unable to issue refunds to a different card, account, or as store credit unless agreed in advance.

Damaged, Defective, or Incorrect Items

If your order arrives damaged during transit, is defective, or if you receive the wrong item entirely, please contact us within 48 hours of delivery. Include a clear photo of the issue along with your order number so we can resolve it as quickly as possible.

In most cases involving damaged or incorrect items, we will arrange a full refund or a replacement without requiring you to return the original item. Each case is reviewed individually and we aim to find the best resolution for you.

Items Not Eligible for Return

The following items cannot be returned for a refund: items that have been used, written in, highlighted, or otherwise altered after delivery; sealed items (such as box sets, special editions, or shrink wrapped bundles) that have been opened unless they arrived faulty or damaged; items returned after the 30 day return window has passed; and items not purchased through Wades Books.

Late or Missing Refunds

If you have been notified that your refund has been issued but it has not appeared in your account, please first check with your bank or payment provider as processing times can vary. If you have waited more than 10 business days and still have not received your refund, please contact our support team with your order number and we will look into it for you.

Cancellations

If you need to cancel an order, please contact us as soon as possible. Orders that have not yet been dispatched can be cancelled for a full refund. Once an order has been dispatched, it cannot be cancelled and you would need to follow the standard return process outlined above.

How to Start a Return

To request a return, please email our team at contact@wadesbooks.com with your order number, the item you wish to return, and the reason for the return. We will respond within 1 business day with further instructions on how to send the item back to us. Please do not send items back without first contacting us, as returns sent without prior authorisation may not be processed.
